One year SOX relief granted — for some

If your company’s been scrambling to meet Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, be aware that a chosen few will get an extension for some rules. Thanks to a recent ruling from the Securities and Exchange Commission, smaller public companies will have an extra year to meet the Section 404(b) auditor attestation requirements. The attestation reports must now be in annual reports for fiscal years ending Dec. 15, 2009 or later.
If your company qualifies for the later deadline, it’s a bit of breathing room, but probably not as much as you were hoping for — some were calling for a two-year extension.
Have you implemented SOX-related changes in your company (whether required or as a best practice)? Let us know in the comments what’s worked — and what hasn’t.
