<p>Taxpayers in these areas will have until Jan. 5, 2009 to file returns, make tax payments or handle other certain time-sensitive acts that were due on or after Sept. 7, 2008. That includes the estimated tax and corporate tax returns that due Oct. 15.</p>
<p>The disaster relief also extends the initial <a href="http://www.financeregs.com/ike-gives-you-extra-week-to-pay-irs/" target="_blank">seven-day</a> postponement that was announced Sept. 12 by IRS.</p>
<p>IRS&#8217; computers will automatically identify taxpayers located in the disaster zone. If you have an affected business located outside the disaster area, contact IRS at 1-866-562-5227 to request relief.</p>

<p>The postponement applies to filing returns, making tax payments and related time-sensitive acts that would normally be due between Sept. 1, 2008 and Jan. 5, 2009.</p>
<p>IRS will also waive failure to deposit penalties for employment and excise taxes due between Sept. 1, 2008 and Sept. 16, 2008 &#8212; as long as the deposits are made no later than Sept. 16.</p>
<p>The relief extends to businesses located in the following parishes:</p>

<p>IRS is postponing certain deadlines for taxpayers in the following areas which have been declared presidential disaster areas:</p>
<ul>
<li>Nebraska &#8212; As of July 7, the counties of Custer and Lancaster qualify for the relief already extended to the counties of Buffalo, Butler, Colfax, Dawson, Douglas, Gage, Hamilton, Jefferson, Kearny, Platte, Richardson, Sarpy and Saunders. Affected businesses in these areas have until <strong>Aug. 19</strong> to file taxes, make payments and handle certain other time-sensitive acts which would usually be due between May 22 and Aug. 19. IRS will also waive failure to deposit penalties for employment and excise taxes due between May 22 and June 6 &#8212; as long as the payments are made by <strong>June 6.</strong></li>
<li>Illinois &#8212; As of July 7, Calhoun, Jersey, Rock Island and Whiteside counties qualify for the relief already extended to the counties of Adams, Clark, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Hancock, Henderson, Jasper, Lake, Lawrence, Mercer and Winnebago. Affected businesses in these areas have until <strong>Aug. 25</strong> to file taxes, make payments and handle certain other time-sensitive acts which would usually be due between June 1and Aug. 25. IRS will also waive failure to deposit penalties for employment and excise taxes due between June 1 and June 16 &#8212; as long as the payments are made by <strong>June 16.</strong></li>
<li>Missouri &#8212; The counties of Clark, Lewis, Lincoln, Marion, Pike, Ralls and St. Charles qualify for relief. Affected businesses in these areas have until <strong>Aug. 29</strong> to file taxes, make payments and handle certain other time-sensitive acts which would usually be due between June 1 and Aug. 29. IRS will also waive failure to deposit penalties for employment and excise taxes due between June 1 and June 16 &#8212; as long as the payments are made by <strong>June 16.</strong><strong> </strong></li>
