Affected by the recent Midwest flooding? More counties were just added to the list of those that qualify for timely relief.
IRS is postponing certain deadlines for taxpayers in the following areas which have been declared presidential disaster areas:
- Nebraska — As of July 7, the counties of Custer and Lancaster qualify for the relief already extended to the counties of Buffalo, Butler, Colfax, Dawson, Douglas, Gage, Hamilton, Jefferson, Kearny, Platte, Richardson, Sarpy and Saunders. Affected businesses in these areas have until Aug. 19 to file taxes, make payments and handle certain other time-sensitive acts which would usually be due between May 22 and Aug. 19. IRS will also waive failure to deposit penalties for employment and excise taxes due between May 22 and June 6 — as long as the payments are made by June 6.
- Illinois — As of July 7, Calhoun, Jersey, Rock Island and Whiteside counties qualify for the relief already extended to the counties of Adams, Clark, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Hancock, Henderson, Jasper, Lake, Lawrence, Mercer and Winnebago. Affected businesses in these areas have until Aug. 25 to file taxes, make payments and handle certain other time-sensitive acts which would usually be due between June 1and Aug. 25. IRS will also waive failure to deposit penalties for employment and excise taxes due between June 1 and June 16 — as long as the payments are made by June 16.
- Missouri — The counties of Clark, Lewis, Lincoln, Marion, Pike, Ralls and St. Charles qualify for relief. Affected businesses in these areas have until Aug. 29 to file taxes, make payments and handle certain other time-sensitive acts which would usually be due between June 1 and Aug. 29. IRS will also waive failure to deposit penalties for employment and excise taxes due between June 1 and June 16 — as long as the payments are made by June 16.
